Innovative Thinking

Creative solutions to different problems have similar characteristics. To be able to solve any problem in a creative way, it is helpful to know these common characteristics, and to use them correctly in order to focus the search for a solution.

A good creative solution to any problem meets the following criteria:

  1. It's not creative unless it sells.
  2. It must completely solve the problem.
  3. It must not rely on many resources.
  4. It can not produce negative side effects.
  5. It is a solution that few will find.
  6. It must be implementable at the lowest level.
  7. It must be acceptable at the highest level.

Every day each of us faces new problems that need proactive solutions. No matter what you do for a living, what you want to accomplish in your life, or how you wish to live your life we must react to forces around us and determine whether we can overcome the challenge and be more productive or be reduced to minimal accomplishments in the face of adversity.

In 1953 Jonas Salk used a weakened strain of the polio virus to almost end polio. No one had looked at the problem itself as the source of the solution.

Walt Disney saw a swamp and purchased the land cheaply. What he saw in Orlando was Disney World and the rest is history.

An artist, Yaacov Agam, wanted to develop an innovative art form. He painted on a page folded several times like an accordion. When the viewer looks from the right, he sees one picture, and when viewed from the left, the viewer sees something differently.

Yanni wanted to write music, but he could not read music. He heard the music in his head and developed his own 'music language' to become one of the most prolific composers of our times.

In 2000, we combined the resources of all our companies under one umbrella...James Feldman Associates, Inc. (JFA).

Since 1966, JFA has been a marketing agency for some of the biggest organizations in the world, including Toyota, Del Monte, Southern Bell, Disney, NBC, Compaq, Helene Curtis, McDonald's, Ford Motor Company, Lexus, Mary Kay, GE, Audi, Neutrogena, American Dairy, March of Dimes, Lucent, Compaq, Apple, Microsoft, and many more.

In 1983, we formed Incentive Travelers Cheque International (iTCheque) as an innovative resource for individual and group travel. Using JFA for the marketing and iTCheque to fulfill travel, we have delivered programs for such companies as The Pampered Chef, Creative Memories, DK Family Learning, Alliance, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Avon, Colesence and Nest Entertainment, as well as corporate clients such as Apple Computer, Hyatt Corporation, Subaru, Compaq, Lexus, C&H Sugar, Kellogg's and AT&T.

After delivering dozens of presentations for trade shows, associations and corporate clients, we formed Shift Happens! in 1991 as a dedicated resource for motivational presentations.
